Orphans & Vulnerable Children Project

FEATURED PROJECT:  Baby Sara Greeting Cards

Baby Sara Risna was miraculously healed from respiratory failure in 2012, then cared for by her foster mother, Ibu Maria.  We created a home-based greeting card project so that Ibu Maria could stay home with Baby Sara to continue nursing her to full health.  Since then we have continued this project as a viable home-based income generator for vulnerable women and children like Maria and her family.  Each greeting card features a classic Indonesian Batik motif.  We will be offering these cards in packs of 10 for a suggested donation of $18, including shipping from Indonesia to the USA.  Our dream is that this greeting card project will provide sustainable supplemental income for Baby Sara’s adoptive family and potentially others in the future.  If you would like to pre-order some cards, please let us know the number of packs you would like to order and an address for shipping.  Delivery takes 3-4 weeks.  You can make the donation online or mail your check to The Seed Basket.  Email us at stephen@theseedbasket.org for more information.  Order online here.

*Thank you to Hopeful Hearts for the generous donation of weekly meat, fruits and veggies to both of our partner orphanages!

The 2004 Tsunami and 2005 Sumatra earthquake left thousands of orphans.  On the island of Nias, off the Sumatran coast, almost everything was destroyed.  Thousands of refugees flocked to the island of Batam near Singapore and many orphanages were opened to care for these bereft children.  The Seed Basket partners with five orphanages in Batam housing 180 orphans and vulnerable children.  These poor children are fed, clothed and given an education and loved by their house parents.  The majority of these children are Nias refugees.  The Seed Basket operates several projects to support the work of these orphanages including sponsorship programs, Seeds of Love (vegetable donation program), Orphanage Relocation Project, and orphanage need fund to supplement the cost of rent and school fees.

Groups can Sponsor an Orphanage: Send Love Gift Bags: $25 each

Your groups gift bags will brighten the life of a needy child at one of our partner orphanages.  You can have each group member send a personal letter and photo to be included, telling your sponsor child that you are thinking of them.  Your Love Gift Bag will include a personal child’s book in the local language, socks for school, a sweet treat, small toy and simple english language book for english lessons.  We will personally deliver your Love Gift and a hug to go with it.

Seeds of Love:  Feed an Entire Orphanage Healthy Vegetables: $25

For just $25 a day you can feed an entire orphanage (36 – 40 kids) healthy vegetables to supplement their usual meal of rice and meat.  This nutritious supplement will provide a natural source of vitamins and support local farmers.

Orphanage Emergency Need Fund: $15,000

In an effort to meet the emergency needs of these partner orphanages, we would like to raise $15,000.  Emergency needs often include food, shelter, water, medical and crisis situations.

Orphan Shelter Emergency Project:  FUNDED $19,000

Two local orphanages had severe shelter emergencies.  Thank you to the donors who met this need before we even asked!  Renovations have been completed at El Zion Grace and Blessing to the Nations orphanages.
